More than 20,000 older youth leave foster care every year, many without the permanent adult connections, education, experience or skills needed to succeed as adults.
Policy makers, advocates and service providers struggle to understand how to best serve transition age youth (TAY) in foster care in a way that meets their unique needs and experiences. As a part of our strategy to strengthen the systems, policies and programs that support this population, the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation is proud to support the creation of FosterPort®, an easily accessible, highly curated online database that identifies and presents leading national experts, and cutting-edge programs and resources to support TAY in foster care.
Over the past 20 years, there has been increased interest in the opportunities and challenges facing young people in foster care and a desire to better understand what kinds of program supports, policies and system changes are needed to ensure the best possible futures. However, until now there has not been a one-stop, interactive website that connects professionals serving young people in foster care with the experts and resources they need to improve and expand their work.
