A powerful complement to the Hilton Foundation’s grantmaking, Program-related Investments (PRIs) are a mission-driven investment strategy, growing our impact and advancing sustainable social change. PRIs involve the potential return of capital within an established timeframe. Flexible capital sparks development and innovation, bringing new resources to communities and building programmatic capacity where it’s needed most.
Since 1994, the Hilton Foundation has provided approximately 40 PRIs totaling $100 million. From loans to equity investments in charitable and commercial organizations, PRIs leverage diverse funding mechanisms, enabling us to meet changing needs and forge new pathways of opportunity that drive measurable and immediate results.
A vital element of the Hilton Foundation’s proactive approach to philanthropy, PRIs support entrepreneurial ventures that strategically align with our initiatives, geographies and populations served.
PRIs are offered in regions served by the Hilton Foundation’s initiatives. While investments may extend to a broader geographic region, the focus is to ensure the investment activity in the priority region exceeds the PRI investment amount. PRIs are primarily made to U.S. based organizations. When making PRIs to organizations based in another country, additional steps are taken in the due diligence process.
